Taxicard and the Olympics 2012

In the run-up to and during the Olympic Games and the Paralympics, road traffic will be much heavier than usual which may mean that trips take longer and could therefore be significantly more expensive.

It may also mean that taxis take longer to respond to calls. During busy times, you should consider if your journey is really necessary, allow much more time for booking and keep an eye on your local borough website for information that could affect your specific journey.

Your journey may be affected by:

  • The Olympic torch will pass through many boroughs on its route to the Olympic Stadium. Security and temporary road closures around the route may cause delays
  • Increased traffic as a result of road changes due to the Olympic and Paralympic Route Networks (known respectively as the ORN and the PRN) coming into effect
  • Games events that use the roads, such as the road cycle events and marathons will affect some areas due to road closures and extra visitors
  • Event days near Games venues

As well as the Olympic Park in Newham, the Games are taking place in venues around London namely: Earls Court, ExCeL in the London Docklands, Greenwich Park, Hampton Court Palace, Lord’s Cricket Ground, North Greenwich Arena, The Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich, Wembley Arena and Wembley Stadium.
